1. What is Sound Memory?
Sound Memory is an online memory game designed for music teachers and their students. Teachers create custom card-matching games using sounds, images, and text — then play them in class to make learning fun and interactive.
2. How do I get started?
Click "Teacher Login" on the homepage to sign up for a free account. Once logged in, you'll see a dashboard with three main sections: Games, Lessons, and Classes. Start by creating your first game!
3. How do I create a game?
Go to Games and click "+ New Game." Give your game a name, choose a grid size (e.g., 2×4 for easy, 4×4 for hard, or a custom size), and pick a pairing mode — either Identical Pairs (match two of the same card) or Custom Pairs (match two different cards, like a sound with an image). Then add card pairs to fill your board.
4. What types of cards can I use?
There are three card types:
• Text — displays a word or phrase.
• Image — displays a picture you upload.
• Sound — plays an audio clip.
You can mix and match types within a game. For example, pair a sound card with a text card showing the name of the instrument.
5. How do I create a sound card?
There are two ways:
1. Record — click the red record button, allow microphone access, and record directly in your browser. Click stop when you're done.
2. Upload — click "Choose File" and select an audio file from your computer.
Both options show you the file name and size once the sound is ready.
6. What is the difference between Identical Pairs and Custom Pairs?
With Identical Pairs, each pair consists of two copies of the same card — students match two identical sounds, images, or texts. With Custom Pairs, you define both cards in a pair separately — for example, a sound of a piano and an image of a piano. This is great for testing recognition across different formats.
7. Can I preview my game before playing it with students?
Yes! In the game editor, click "Preview" to see a shuffled board layout with all your active cards. This lets you check that everything looks and sounds right before class.
8. What are Lessons and how do I use them?
A Lesson is an ordered collection of games that students play in sequence. For example, you might create a lesson called "Week 1: Intervals" containing three games of increasing difficulty. Go to Lessons, click "+ New Lesson," name it, and then add games from your library in the order you want them played.
9. What are Classes?
Classes are groups of students. Create a class (e.g., "5th Grade Music"), add your students by name, and then when you start a game or lesson, you can quickly select that class instead of typing every name individually.
10. How do I start a game with my students?
Open any game and click "Play." You'll see an audience picker where you can choose a class or enter student names manually. Select your players (1–8), then click "Start Game." The memory board appears and students take turns flipping cards.
11. How does gameplay work?
Cards are face-down on a grid. A student clicks two cards to flip them. If they match, the pair is collected, the student scores a point, and they get another turn. If they don't match, the cards flip back and the next player goes. Sound cards play automatically when flipped — students can replay them by tapping the speaker icon. The game ends when all pairs are found.
12. Can I play a full lesson in one session?
Yes. Open a lesson and click "Start Lesson." After choosing your players, you'll see a lesson dashboard showing all the games. Click any game to play it. Completed games get a checkmark so you can track progress. Click "Finish Lesson" when you're done.
13. How do I share my games or lessons with other teachers?
Open the game, lesson, or class you want to share and click the "Share" button. This generates a unique link you can copy and send to a colleague. They can click the link to preview what you've shared and add it to their own library.
14. I received a share link — what do I do?
Click the link to see a preview of the shared content, including the creator's name and a summary of what's included. Then click "Add to My Library." The item will appear in your library with a "Shared" tag. You can play it right away!
15. Can I edit content that was shared with me?
Shared content is read-only. However, you can click "Make My Own Copy" to create an independent copy that you fully own and can edit however you like. This removes the shared reference and gives you a personal version. For lessons, this also copies all the games inside it.
16. How do I stop sharing something?
Open the shared item, click "Share," and then click "Revoke." This deactivates the share link and removes the item from everyone else's library. You'll be asked to confirm before it takes effect.
17. Can I see my past lesson results?
Yes. Go to History from your profile menu to view completed lesson sessions. Each entry shows the date and time, and you can click "View Results" to see detailed scores and player performance.
18. How do I update my profile?
Click your name or avatar in the top-right corner and select "Profile Settings." You can change your display name and upload or remove a profile photo.
19. How do I contact support?
